Combat of Giants Dinosaurs 3D for Nintendo 3DS Review

The Nintendo 3DS is an excellent and fun little gaming system, I’m thoroughly enjoying mine that’s for sure.  The system is great but are all of the games? When launched there weren’t many games available and some of them felt rather rushed. Today for review I’ve got Combat of Giants Dinosaurs 3D for the Nintendo 3DS and this is one of those games that I could have done without. This game is just extremely repetitive and honestly it’s boring. I’m sure children might think it’s a great game with the dinosaurs and all, but I think even they will get bored with it quickly.

The Review::

So let’s start off with the packaging:

   

 

Of course all pictures are in 2D, sadly I haven’t found a way to do official screen shots with the Nintendo DS systems, so I had to break out the camera and do it the old fashioned way.

When you put the game in a nice looking spinning 3D logo will appear on your Nintendo 3DS upper screen. When you load the game up you’ll see it again with some background.

 

 

To start the game you’ll have to create a profile or select one that you already started.

If you selected one you already started as I did, you’ll see your progress through the world on the top screen and then your dinosaur with info at the bottom.

Before you start you can customize your character or change equipment. Your dinosaur is on the top screen with options on the bottom. There is an option for Special Outfits, but it doesn’t become unlocked until later in the game.

As you play the game you’ll collect items that will help you along the way that you can equip. There are things like armor or items that can add to your attack points.

 

On the customization screen you can change the look of your dinosaur like stripes and coloring.

When you start playing the game on the top screen you’ll see your dinosaur running around the wilds of the prehistoric age. The bottom screen shows your items equipped and a progress bar of how far you’ve gone in the level.

As you’re roaming your dinosaur can walk around freely, sort of, you can basically only keep moving forward. You can run into obstacles like rocks that you can break and your dinosaur can growl as well.

You run forward through the world and then you run into a dinosaur to fight. When fighting you can use special moves, or counter moves as some dinosaurs can only be affected by certain moves from your dinosaur.  At the top of the screen you have health bars like any fighting game does. If you lose you can change your equipment out and try a rematch against he same dinosaur. Sometimes you’ll have to dodge an attack, the other dino will light up letting you know he’s about to attack you dodge and then he’s vulnerable to your attack. You can use combos or special moves when an opening permits. Some dinosaurs are impervious to all of your attacks except the the counter attack.

     

Lather, rinse and repeat. Yes, that’s basically all there is to this game, run around the world, fight dinosaurs and do it all over and over again until you complete the game. It’s boring and very repetitive to the point I can only stand playing for a few minutes a t a time. There’s nothing to keep the player actually playing the game, or even wanting to play the game.

The graphics are very nice though, especially the 3D aspect. As my dinosaur was running it looked as if his tail was coming off of the screen.

Conclusion:

Kids might like this game for the dinosaur theme, but I think it’s just boring and just too repetitive to be enjoyable at all. You do the same things over and over again, it’s just plain boring, not worth it even as a used, discounted game I think. This is one to skip surely.
