Synology Launches RackStation RS2414(RP)+

Hmm.. so it’s basically a rack mounted NAS…

Synology America Corp. today announced the successors to its popular and expandable 2U rack-mounted models.  The RS2214+/RS2214RP+ offer business users high performance and scalable storage with enterprise storage features at small and medium business price.

The new models are designed with small and medium business users in mind.  Both models have modular designs, and can scale up to 24 drives by taking advantage of the RX1214/RX1214RP. That makes for up to 96TB of high-performance storage.

"These new RackStations make for an excellent value proposition, offering a blend of high performance and scalability at an attractive price," said Jason Bonoan, Product Marketing Manager at Synology America Corp.  "When coupled with Synology’s DiskStation Manager 4.3, they will make for a valuable addition to any business network."

The combination is designed to offer affordable reliability. Quad NICs allow for network redundancy.  Multiple RAID options provide flexible drive redundancy. The CPU uses passive cooling, and the cooling fans offer adaptive behavior in the event of a fan failure. By creating an active-passive cluster with Synology High Availability (SHA), productive downtime is reduced to seconds, in the event of node failure. The RS2214RP+ goes even further to maximize uptime by including redundant power supplies.

In addition to the various redundancy options, the RS2214+/RS2214RP+ offer, Synology’s award-winning DiskStation Manager (DSM 4.3) provides other welcome additional for business users, such as:

  • ADS and LDAP support for up to 100,000 users/groups
  • ACLs for granular file-level NTFS-style permissions
  • Comprehensive iSCSI support
  • Compliant with VMware®, Citrix Xen®, and Microsoft Hyper-V®
  • LUN backup, cloning, and snapshot software at no additional cost
  • Granular notification settings
  • SSD TRIM support
  • SSD read caching
  • Cloud Station – For synching files between multiple devices
