Another day, another quad-core mobile gadget. Today it’s the immensely powerful HTC Zeta, specifications and renders of which were posted on Engadget. The quad-core phone seems significantly more powerful than the HTC Edge, and if it is real must be some way from being a reality.
The phone doesn’t use Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chipset that’s been cropping up in all other quad-core mobile devices so far, including the Asus Transformer Prime and the HTC Edge. Instead, it’s powered by a next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, which has four cores clocked at 2.5 GHz. Holy cow.
The massive processor is backed by 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, 32 GB of internal storage and an 1830 mAh battery. As it’s an HTC product, it’ll also come with Beats Audio integration and Bluetooth 4.0. Of course, Android Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0 will be included on the software side of things, as with all of the other quad-core devices we’ve been seeing recently.
On the camera front, you’ll find an 8 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front-facer, quite a way off the 13 megapixel Motorola Razr devices bound for China by the end of this year.
The display is the now-standard 4.5″ screen at 1280 x 720p. The whole deal is expected to measure 109.8 x 60.9 x 9.8 mm, so on the larger end of the scale, similar to the iPhone 4S. It also weighs a similar amount to Apple’s giant, at 146 g. Its design is decidedly more new-school than the HTC Edge and HTC Rezound, although it still struts the same unibody backing that HTC favour.
So is this a fanciful fake or the next big thing? It’s hard to tell, but we’ll put our money on the former… until we hear more details like a release date or availability, both of which are notably absent. Stay tuned!
