Siri Compatible with iPhone 4

We’ve received word that the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch have confirmed to be 100% compatible with Siri, the digital assistant which Apple sells as an iPhone 4S exclusive on the basis of hardware compatibility. A clever hacking team made the announcement yesterday, showing off videos of Siri in action on an iPhone 4 and iPod Touch, working at full speed.

The team previously announced that they had gotten Siri working on an iPhone 4, but were unable to authenticate the iPhone’s requests with Apple servers, which restricted Siri to phones bearing the signature of the iPhone 4S. Now that this hurdle has been cleared, Siri is completely functional.

The hack hasn’t yet been released to the public, but a member of the team stated that it would be released as soon as it was checked to ensure that it didn’t compromise any other part of the iPhone 4 operating system. There’s no ETA on when this is to be expected, as he reportedly didn’t want to “anger the hive” with broken promises.

There’s also a small danger that Apple will be able to block the exploit used to spoof as an iPhone 4S, thereby preventing Siri from working on unauthorised devices once again. This could be the opening move of a long cat-and-mouse game between the two sides, as hackers search for vulnerabilities and Apple try to patch them.

We’ll let you know when Siri for iPhone 4 is announced. Until then, you’ll have to make do with the bevvy of hilarious Siri videos on YouTube.
