After debuting on Android last fall to a very positive reception, MyFlare, the first automated and multi-functional personal safety app, is now available for iPhone!. Peace of mind wherever you go, MyFlare cleverly employs the essential resources on a smartphone – 911, text e-mail, GPS, audio and video – with just one touch of a button to provide users additional personal safety and faster emergency response.

Funded and designed by co-founders Barry E. Haimo and David Kahn, who were influenced by a close female friend who was sexually assaulted, MyFlare acts as a personalized digital flare gun by cleverly utilizing smartphone technology to minimize one’s risk of danger. MyFlare performs ALL of the following actions instantly, automatically, simultaneously and continuously in order to give users the help they need when they need it most, whether they’re in distress or a more significant emergency:

•     Instantly calls 911 or the user’s designated non-911 emergency contact
•     Automatically sends a MyFlare Message via SMS text and e-mail to 10 of the user’s pre-selected MyFlare Contacts, alerting them that the user’s in trouble, including the user’s current and ongoing GPS location
•     Automatically and continuously delivers the user’s text and e-mail messages every three minutes to the user’s pre-selected contacts with an updated GPS location
•     Simultaneously sends 20-second optional video recordings capturing the user’s present environment, which are attached to the delivered e-mails every few minutes (as determined by the user)
•     Instantly blasts an optional police siren continuously, except when the phone is not in use

MyFlare’s all-in-one functionality is simple and simultaneous — critical in a potentially life-threatening situation. Most importantly, the MyFlare Message is delivered to the user’s MyFlare Contacts every three minutes with the user’s updated GPS location. The GPS, as well as all of the information sent from MyFlare, can be indispensable to a user fleeing an emergency, or worse, getting abducted, and will prove helpful as evidence in legal proceedings.

Many statistics prove personal safety needs attention. According to a recent USA Today study encompassing the 50 biggest U.S. cities, more than 1,000 savable lives are lost each year because of inefficiencies in emergency medical response times. The National Crime Victimization Survey reported in 2006 that 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted, which equated to more than 600 women every day. In addition, the Kids Fighting Chance organization reveals that one child is reported missing or abducted every 40 minutes, which translates to approximately 2,000 reports per day and 800,000 reports per year.

These examples represent the need for more advanced personal safety tools, and MyFlare is at the forefront of providing that innovative protection. Since its recent launch, MyFlare has established partnerships with other safety leaders in the field, including Global Rescue, a world-renowned medical assistance organization, and Richard Bloom, one of the country’s top personal safety experts.
